The initial idea of The Prayer was to criticize the dress code requirements of Muslim women during prayer. The woman is praying and, in the middle of prayer, her headscarf falls down and her body appears. The video is edited in seven layers of images and sounds. There are layers or images of bodies repeated after each other, as the sound does the same. Consequently, the sound becomes noise and unrecognizable. The overlapping of sounds and images are emphasizing the repetition of the body movement during prayer. I chose black as a color for her clothes to emphasize the contrast between her skin and the blackness of her dress to make it seductive. The reason to show seductiveness of the female body is to show how gender differences are important in Islam. Even though women are required to partake in a particular dress code, men do not have to cover themselves and do not have any definition of dress code during prayer.
